IFCN Education Fellowships
The International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN) is pleased to announce the availability of education fellowships that will be awarded to support training in clinical neurophysiology for applicants without access to similar training in their home country. Applicants are encouraged to seek training in areas where they have not yet gained experience. This focus ensures that the fellowship supports meaningful skill development and addresses knowledge gaps. The experience gained is expected to have a significant impact in their home country
Eligibility Criteria:
- Member of an IFCN member society for at least one year. Check the list of IFCN affiliated societies on the website www.ifcn.info/chapters.asp
OR
Member of the International Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ICNS) for at least one year for those from countries without an affiliated member society.
- Applicants with a minimum of 2 years in core medical training (e.g. neurology, rehabilitation medicine, clinical neurophysiology) are preferred.
- Commitment to return to their country after the period of fellowship.
- There are no age restrictions.
- Scope and period of training:
- Any field of clinical neurophysiology including general or specific/specialized techniques for which training opportunities are not available in their own country.
- Applicants are encouraged to identify training centers within their own IFCN Chapters' geographic region when possible (check the IFCN chapters geographic regions on the website www.ifcn.info/chapters.asp).
- The minimum duration of training is 1 month with a maximum 6 months.
- Candidates must contact the education mentor/supervisor themselves and secure permission for the fellowship. The mentor/supervisor will be required to complete section III of the application form.
- The fellowship must begin within 1 year of receiving the award.
- Candidates awarded in previous years are not eligible to apply for another fellowship.
The IFCN Education Committee will make the selection of successful candidates. Applicants will be informed of the decision by 1 July 2026.
The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill the following obligations:
- Discuss the exact dates of the fellowship with the host institution and check on any host country and institution restrictions. The fellowship should be started within one year of receiving the award. The host institution cannot be changed.
- Applicants must check all the possible impediments that can prevent them from being in the hosting institution in the proposed period (VISA, commercial embargoes, health restrictions, etc.) before application.
- It is expected that the fellowship will be completed without interruption, but if special circumstances arise, exceptions will be considered for approval by IFCN Executive Committee.
- The fellowship winner must submit a mid-term progress report and one at the end of the fellowship to the IFCN Secretariat.
- The successful applicant is expected to provide future plans for how they will contribute to IFCN and their field.
- The successful applicant agrees to assist and allow promotion of IFCN and the award through various media outlets, including social media.

IFCN Research Fellowship
The International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology (IFCN) is pleased to announce the availability of research fellowships that will be awarded to support research in clinical neurophysiology for applicants without access to high-quality research experience or specialized research methodology or technique in their home country. It is expected that the experience gained will be of significant impact in their home country. Applicants are encouraged to seek training in research areas where they have not yet gained experience. The gained is expected to have a significant impact in their home country.
The fellowship program provides a maximum award up to $25,000 for a one-year fellowship, with proportionately reduced awards for shorter fellowships.
Eligibility criteria:
- Member of an IFCN member society or the International Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ICNS) for members from non-affiliated countries
- Applicants with a minimum of 2 years in core medical training and intend a career in clinical neurophysiology are preferred
- Commitment to return to their country after the period of fellowship
- There are no age restrictions
- Previous winners are ineligible to apply
- Applicants must check all possible VISA requirements prior to applying
- The fellowship must be at the institution that they applied to without any changes
- The fellowship must start within one year of receiving the award
- Candidates must contact the proposed supervisor/s themselves and secure permission for the fellowship. The supervisor will be required to complete section III of the application form.
There are two types of Research Fellowships. Please indicate on your application which fellowship type you are applying for.
Research Fellowship Types
Short- Term Research Skills and Methods Fellowships
This fellowship is up to 3 months’ duration and is intended for applicants seeking training in a specific research methodology or technique not currently available in their own country and of clear value to their home department. The fellowship aims to support the development of a research project in collaboration with a host supervisor, establish a sustained research collaboration, and provide continued feedback during study conduct, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.
Long- Term Research Training Fellowship
This fellowship is of up to one year’s duration and is intended for applicants seeking to conduct a research project at the host institution. The fellowship aims to provide in-depth research training under close supervision and foster sustained collaboration between the host and home institutions. The applicant is expected to transfer the acquired expertise to the home institution, where such knowledge or methodology are currently unavailable.
Applicants will be notified of the decision by 1 July 2026.
The successful candidate(s) will be expected to fulfill the following obligations:
- Discuss the exact dates of the fellowship with the host institution and check any host country and institution restrictions. The fellowship should be started within one year of receiving the award. The host institution cannot be changed.
- It is expected that the fellowship will be completed without interruption, but if special circumstances arise, exceptions will be considered.
- There are two kinds of applications: a long-term application (longer than 3 months), a short-term application (3 months or shorter). The applicant MUST indicate their application as short -term or long-term.
- The fellowship winner must submit a mid-term progress report and one at the end of the fellowship, to the IFCN Secretariat .
- The successful applicant is expected to provide future plans for how they will contribute to IFCN and their field.
- The successful applicant is expected to provide an article to one of the IFCN Journals and/or other contributions through various media outlets, including social media to promote clinical neurophysiology.
- IFCN acknowledgment required in any publication
